  3. For all of you that want to take the information about the
  4. web on the plane with you and don't have a modem for your airphone,
  5. or for those who simply love the rustle of paper, here are some of
  6. the key documents about the web and how it works in paper form.
  7.  
  8. Each document is in available postscript (.ps) and also in plain  
  9. ASCII text (.txt) form, in the anonymous FTP archive site at  
  10. info.cern.ch. (FTP to info.cern.ch, log in as "anonymous", give your  
  11. user@host as password, then change directory to pub/www/doc )
  12.  
  13. line-mode-guide.ps    Instructions for running the line-mode
  14.             client
  15.  
  16. www-server-guide.ps    Instructions for running a server
  17.  
  18. http-spec.ps        The HTTP protocol used by new W3 servers
  19.             
  20. html-spec.ps        The Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)
  21.             
  22.  
  23. The last three have recently been revised.

  27. The HTML and later the HTTP specs are headed in the Internet
  28. Draft - RFC direction so comment at this stage is appreciated.
  29. The documents are all generated from the hypertext, and so
  30. apart from the specs which are designed to be linear documents, they  
  31. made read a little strangely. None of them is perfect, but the  
  32. pressure has been so high for printed documentation that we  
  33. distribute them as they are.
